Practice Owner

  • Suzanne Tate , DVM, Hospital Manager

Suzanne Tate, DVM, graduated from veterinary school at Michigan State University in 1990. Sue also received her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. Directly after graduating, Sue began working at DePorre Veterinary Hospital. In 1999, Sue moved over to Troy Veterinary Hospital in the dual role of hospital manager and veterinarian. In May of 2008, Sue purchased the hosital from the DePorre's and became  Troy Veterinary Hospital's new Practice Manager.

Sue remembers wanting to be a vet since the age of eight. She always had a keen desire to help people be responsible pet owners. As a young owner of pocket pets such as mice, rats, and guinea pigs, Sue found that most vets at that time didn't know much about them. This motivated Sue, in veterinary school, to take a special interest and additional classes in pocket pets. One of the things she finds most rewarding about her job is helping people to really understand their pet's problem and treatment options.

Sue's genuine concern for the health and welfare of every pet that comes through our doors, coupled with her kindness and patience in working with them, contribute to the high standard of animal care set at Troy Veterinary Hospital.

Sue shares her home with an Aussie-mix dog named Mobil. Due to Mobil's severe epilepsy and Sue's long work days, Mobil accompanies Sue to work every day.

Gourmet cooking, cross-country skiing, gardening, home improvements, and collecting veterinary antiques are some of Sue's other pleasures.

She has a dog named Bennet, who is a Corgi mix and a black cat named Cricket.

Her hobbies include working out, reading, fishing, and spending time with her family.

What Katlyn finds most enjoyable about work is helping the "family member" that can not say too much.  She thinks it is always great to see the animals come in.
Vet Assistants

  • Hailey Fireman

Hailey Fireman became a Vet Assistant at Troy Veterinary Hospital in September 2007. She attends Oakland Community College in addition to working here with us. Knowing she can make a difference and contributing toward happily ending stories are two of the things Hailey finds most rewarding about her job here at the hospital.

Hailey lives at home with her parents, her twin sister Heather, and her older brother Brandon. They have a Golden Retriever named Apollo, a German Shepherd named Ace, a Siberian Husky named Phoenix. She also has four cats: Buster, Rat, Bandit, and Yogi Bear.

Hailey enjoys rollerblading, being outdoors, being with her family, and long road trips.

  • Caitlin Fitzsimmons

Caitlin has been working as a Vet Assistant at Troy Veterinary Hospital since July 2008. She is currently attending Macomb Community College working towards her Veterinary Technician degree.  Helping sick animals leave healthy is what Caitlin finds most rewarding about her job. She also enjoys watching surgeries and learning something new here every day.

Caitlin has two cats, Optimus Prime and Magnus (aka George because he reminds her of Curious George.) She also has a Ball Python named Aphrodite and a dog named Cassie. Cassie was a stray brought into our hospital that found a loving, forever home with Caitlin.

Caitlin is a huge Pistons fan and loves all outdoor activities. She is thinking about starting a dog walking/sitting service--stay tuned!
  • Taylor Kanas

Taylor Kanas has been with Troy Veterinary Hospital since September 2008. Taylor graduated from Western Michigan and hopes to soon be studying Veterinary medicine at Michigan State University.

What she enjoys most about being a Vet Assistant is seeing the smiles on people's faces when we help their pets. Taylor's favorite Hospital memory is when she was able to observe and assist in an amputation surgery that helped relieve a "lucky" dog from cancer.

Taylor lives with her mother and their favorite mutt Conoco. When Taylor isn't working or studying, she enjoys snowboarding, working out, shooting pool, taveling, going to concerts, and watching the RedWings, Tigers, and Pistons.

Reception Staff

  • Linda Williams

Linda Williams, our head receptionist, has been greeting Troy Veterinary Hospital's clients and pets since 1989, even before the DePorre family purchased the hospital from its original doctors. Linda's gift is working with people. She loves being able to recognize your voice over the phone and is dedicated to establishing good relationships with our clients and their pets. Being patient and kind are two qualities Linda finds essential to doing her job well.

Over her long career as a Veterinary Receptionist, Linda has admitted animals that have swallowed all kinds of unusual items ranging from coins to pull-tabs. But the most memorable incident she recalls involved a client who was mystified by a rug in his basement that appeared to be shrinking daily, only to find out it was inside his dog's stomach after exploratory surgery was performed. The dog went home several pounds lighter, and then the client paid for the cost of the surgery exclusively in coins. It took Linda quite some time to put all those coins in holders that day!

Linda and her husband Don have four children and eight grandchildren. In addition to spending time with her grandchildren, Linda loves to cook, bake, garden, and mow the grass.

Accounts Manager

  • Karen West

Karen West is our Accounts Manager. She has been with the DePorre Hospitals since 1990. Karen works at both Troy Veterinary Hospital and DePorre Veterinary Hospital, but you may never see her as her nose is almost always pointed toward the computer screen in the office.

Karen is proud to be working for two hospitals that provide such excellent animal care, and she loves being around the variety of animals that come through the doors.

Karen shares her home with her husband Ernie, their Whippet, Camilla Parker, their black cat, Morgan Le Fay, and their Future Leader Dog, Tarbah. Karen enjoys raising Future Leader Dogs and taking Agility classes with her Whippet, Camilla. Camilla also works as a Therapy Dog.
